Distance increasingly defines our world. Our technology develops to reach across expanses, increases our ability to perceive the world and deepens our understanding of the interconnectedness of everything.

It also puts into perspective how very small we are, how limited even our enhanced reach is, and how difficult it is for us to emotionally engage with objects beyond our immediate reach.

This irony is, our understanding of distance at once empowers us, puts a complicated world into perspective, and makes it apparent how powerless we still are.
